Northern Virginia Players’ new Technical Theatre & Design Program brings our professional quality standards to the non-performance areas of theatre. Homeschooled students ages 12 and up attend weekly sessions throughout the rehearsal period for each show, building the set and learning technical aspects of the performances.

The program includes all the preshow building, designing, painting, and prep work necessary to produce a show. Students receive instruction and mentoring on Set, Props, Lighting, Costumes, Set Design, Lighting Design, and Stage Management, as well as shop safety, proper use of tools, and drawing/reading building plans.

Once we move into the theatre, the students see the set they built come together and learn all the ins and outs of running a show, from Stage Management to Spotlight Operations and everything in between.

The same dedication NVP has when providing quality training to actors for their craft is now applied to students who love theatre but do not want to be on stage, or actors who want to understand ALL the parts of the theatre world they love.
